Why do TV stations bombard us with an advert for a show that's "coming soon" for weeks and weeks?

Why not just tell us when the heck it's coming and that'll be that?

Why do the feel the need to advertise more than 2 weeks before the event?

I'm sick of hearing that 'pop goes the band' is "coming soon"

Is it just me that finds this irritating and therefore less likely to watch the show?

LOL, no I probably wouldn't either, it just so happens I doubt I will be watching that particular show anyway ;o) x
You know what annoys me? When a series has been on for 5 weeks and the last episode is advertised to death. If you've watched the series you'll know when the last episode is on and if you haven't you wont care!!

LOL Francis....that's true!!

I knew what you meant, Ronaldo :o)
The thing that annoys me is that they advertise the next programme over the closing minutes of the current on,they don't even wait for the credits anymore.
Question Author
Ooooh I agree with that too, particularly annoying if you're after the name of one of the actors or the name of a song used in the show/movie.

:o)
It infuriates me too. They show the same clips over and over again that by the time it comes to be shown, I've completely lost interest!!! And as for showing bits of the next episode, well, words fail me Grrrrr
They do my head in. I don't want to watch it by the time it comes on.

I'm really glad I'm not alone with this LOL :o)
I remember ITV hyping Demons a lot before it started and look how that turned out! The more hype a programme gets usually means it's rubbish, but I suppose all channels are more desperate for viewers these days so they have to try something to get people interested. I'm guessing they think people don't read TV magazines or use the internet to get such information.

And what's even *worse* during some programmes (mainly "reality" TV) is when they show you at the start what's coming up during that episode. And then every ad break they remind you what's happened so far and what's coming up in the next few minutes just in case you might switch off before then.

Question Author
There's probably something in that, the bigger the hype...the poorer the show.
What happens I find is that I see it all advertised saying coming soon and then the next thing I know I've missed it.

Were you having a bit of a rant Lakitu?!
Question Author
LOL, I was! I watch a few things on Living TV and getting sick to the back teeth about hearing about sodding "pop goes the band".

Is anyone really interested in seeing members of 80's band being transformed back to their former 'glory' anyway??
