Should Anyone Be Prosecuted?
2 Police Officers respond to a call of a loud party. It's early evening and the location is a house in a residential street. There have been numerous complaints throughout the afternoon.
On arrival the Officers see that there are amplifiers in the front garden with music blaring. There is also a group of young people who are either drunk / drugged up or both who are in the garden too, drinking, shouting, swearing etc. The Officers establish that the houseowners are away on holiday and have left their 2 teenage sons (19+18 years old) in charge.
The Officers try to explain about the complaints but both sons and their friends are very belligerent and refuse to tone down the music when requested.
The Officers ask to be admitted to the house to try to get the music turned off/down but are refused. They then decide to enter anyway, and find at least another 20 drunken youths inside. The brothers and most of the others are cursing and jostling the Officers by this time and then begin punching and kicking the 2 Officers.
Eventually, other Officers arrive and 6 youths in total including both brothers who were involved in the assaults are arrested for those assaults. The Officers sustain cuts, bruises etc, have to attend hospital for a check up but are not admitted.
Is it reasonable to expect that prosecutions should follow against the arrested persons? DISCUSS!!!

The reason given by the Officers for entering the house was because they came to the conclusion that a Breach of the Peace was taking place and that the most effective way to stop/prevent a recurrence of it, would be by putting a stop to the cause, i.e the blaring music.
