Tell me .... if the general knowledge round is likely to be a very close call - and passes will be taken into account - why do people still pass??? Would it not be sensible to have something, anything, in mind to say if the mind goes blank on the proper answer .... even if this is "mickey mouse" or "spam" or anything .... I know it would sound silly, but why oh why do people pass!!!?

I should imagine that the pressure the contestants feel when they are in the chair is immense and probably their mouths engage before their brains.
I'm the calmest, most unflappable person on the planet but a few years ago I appeared on a TV show and turned into a gibbering idiot.

If they give a wrong answer, time is spent on John Humphreys saying what the correct answer is.If they pass, he goes straight on to the next question.
