name the hotel whose room 217 seemed so eerie to the man who stayed in it, he issued a warning that everyone else should stay out.

stanley hotel    estes park colorado      i asked this question earlier today and ended up coming accross the answer soon after so i figured i would post the answer for others who need it. this hotel was in the movie  the shining.   stephen king
I thought the room was 237 in the shining.

Room 217 features in the novel, but not in the film. It was changed to room 237 in the 1980 film version because the hotel management where the film was being shot were worried no-one would stay in room 217 after the films release, thus costing them money. Therefore, a ficticious room 237 was created.

In the film & book the hotel is called The Overlook
