Is this deformation of character?
7 Answers
I had a phone call from the company I work for today asking me if I had a criminal record. I said that I hadn`t and have had 2 CRB checks done this year which both say a clear record.
My boss got an email from one of the company`s that we work for stating that I had got a criminal record and that they were obliged to inform him of my criminal record. She did not say "may have" she actually put "has a criminal record".
She has also copied the email to two seperate companies confirming the fact that, in her words, this employee has a criminal record.
Now, I am not a solicitor and I don`t really understand what is going on, so if possible I would like some advice from you on this matter please.
What are my next steps? Do I need to see a solicitor, Do I write back and state that she has no proof of her accusations?
Any advice / information would be greatly appreciated...

She has no legal right to carry out a CRB check without your signed authority as i understand it. She will not have had that from you, therefore this is either here say, rumour, or defamation of character by person or persons who may have a grudge against you or your boss. If this woman who sent your boss and the other 2 companies the email is NOT in the HR dept, then it is malicious on her part as that is not her job role
