I see on the TV Licensing site that a Black and White TV licence is only £48.00. Can you still buy B&W TVs and is there one that will receive Freeview when we go digital?
Only curious. I'm not really that tight.

Not sure if you can still buy them, but some people still view their old ones. A friend of mine until only a couple of years ago was still watching a black and white TV.
Black and white TV's lack many features of even pre digital colour TV's (like scart connection) so I would guess that once we go all digital, as black and white TV's cannot be used, the licence will be stopped.
I remember a post on here ages ago where someone knew an elderly couple who had an old B&W telly which was on its last legs and they refused to get a new colour one because they didn't see why they had to change from what they were used to and the poster was trying to source an old telly for them. Wonder what happened in the end.
I think they still issue these draconian chits as a concession or 'safety net' to themselves in a failure to enforce the full licence payment from a household. I've heard in the past that a B&W licence is required for simply having 'Radio' recieving equipment in your property... That includes one fitted to a motor car registered to that address!..
I might also add that I've only heard of one person evading the 'TV tax' but they lived on one of the Shetland islands at the time and it obviously proved to be too far to send an inspector without the promise of absolute prosicution.
To use a STB with a non-scart TV, you need an RF Modulator, or a STB with a built in RF Modulator, such as the old Nokia 9850.
