did anyone see it this week about liver transplants? Do you think its right/fair to donate a love ones liver to someone who knows they are abusing their body and that they need a liver, i.e George Best?

Thats why they have the process to decide whether they get one. I think with george best is he got off the drink but then back on it after transplant

well thats not entirely true is it, if you watched last night youd see that they still choose people who have or are abusing their body. Look at the foreigner, he was laughing at the doc
I was talking about georgie best. I did watch lastnight.
You have to remember it's only been the last few generations where the health risks of drinking and smoking have been advertised. There was a time that a doctor would give you a cigarette if you were stressed.

When I was young there were adverts everywhere for cigarettes. So many of us are victims of advertising, and as you know, advertising works.

So I believe that all people addicted to smoking from before the ban should be treated with a little more sympathy. Those who started after the ban....well they are just stupid because all they've been told are the negative effects.

you said they have the process to decide?
i can say id be furious if i donated a loved ones organs to someone who basically doesnt give a toss about recieving and looking after it. What a insult that would be to the donator and the the person who couldve had it if that person didnt. That women with fatty liver diesease infuriated me with her attitude. Her attiude to the drinking was shocking despite the fact that it could kill her, in mu opinion NO one should even be allowed to be on the transpant list if they are continuing to abuse thier bodies.

and the drinking ones moriarty?
yes didnt you see it, the big board of people that decided. I didnt say they decided agianist the drinkers, but they look at the case they dont just give livers out willy nilly. The poor bloke at end that didnt get one. Do you think because of life choices, some bad ones that they shouldnt get them?
Same to a certain extent. again, it's not been that long since we've been told the real danger. Some can change their lifestyles to suit...some can't.
I thought the decision panel seemed to deal with each case fairly, individually and sensibly. Inevitably some emotion may creep in, however like 4getme said - they certainly don't give out livers 'willy-nilly' - there simply aren't enough of them.
I'd like to think that if I was to donate then they would help anyone no matter what their circumstances and this would give them a kick up the bum to sort their lives out, and if they didnt then take it back lol. I'm just trying to say everyone makes mistakes, if a family member was in a serious condition that resulted from being drunk should they not save them because they shouldnt have been drunk?
i see what your saying ummmm but i cant help but feel that if someone said to me ''gem, if you have another drink, you will die'' then surely that would be enough to make you stop! If you want something bad enough you will do anything to get it.
The case of that old man that didnt get the liver transplant and died in the end was so sad, especially when he said that if he could turn back time he would never of drank etc. He got off the drink, he was truely fighting for his life and he didnt get given the chance..

Why aren't there dicscussions on hip replacements for keep fit fanatics.

Good discussion on Doc´s thread
have you seen that film REPOMEN 4getmenot? they do somethining similar on that lol. Mybe doctors should threat people who recieve these organ that if they continue to abuse there bodies once theyve recieved a new organ that they will send the bailiffs around and take them back . Just a though lol
lotsafun....there's still a generation of people out there that mistrust doctors. My Dad was told to stop drinking when I was little. He couldn't fathom it. As far as he was concerned everyone he knew drank and had no problems. He died of liver cancer aged 59.

We are no longer so ignorant...
it was sad. But then saying all I have I'm not a donor only with blood
lotsafun no I havent but good idea. have you ever seen 7 pounds?
