Does anyone know if there is a japanese version of the grudge, like there was for the ring, and did anyone else find the start of the grudge slightly odd?

There is indeed a Japanese version of The Grude, also known as Ju-On.

There are 3 Japanese Ring Films - the second of which is a "prequel" . US version of prequel in works if not already finished.
