Will US drama 24, ever make a return to the terrestrial airwaves?

We probably all know the american drama starring Kiefer Sutherland, is currently doing the rounds at Sky One. But sometimes Sky are generous enough to give the rights to some of their shows after they are finished with it, examples include Enterprise and Nip/Tuck, so will we see another appearance of Jack Bauer in the free airwaves? Or could Sky do a 'Simpsons' and deprive the general public of a good show for a whole decade?

They showed series one and two on the BBC, so dont see why the next wont be. (Cant remember series 3!)

i used to like 24 but havent bothered with this new series as it is now a tired formula that they have done nothing to change.very slow moving and you can usually sum each episode up in about three sentences

I believe Channel 5 (five, whatever) bought the repeat rights to series 3 & 4 of 24, when the BBC lost the rights to Sky. I don't know if there was ever a time given for them broadcasting it... probably in the autumn.

Whatever happens, it certainly won't be back on the Beeb. Pity - but then again at least we'll get an hour of 24 lasting an hour!

I thought the 5 purchase was still in the "rumour" stage, as Sky were keen on being the only place to see new "24".

dave_c: It's not a question of Sky being tight, but a combination of them wanting exclusive rights to a show (they pay a lot more, but if it increases subscriptions it can be worth it) and the terrestrial channels not having the cash to pay for the rights so soon after Sky's broadcasts.

Mattk: If you don't get Sky, you don't get Jack! (AS Sky's adverts for S3 went). So far S3 has only been shown on Sky.

dafyd: On the BBC, an hour of "24" lasted around 42 minutes! Apart from (normally) the premier and possibly closing episode to each season they are shown with ads in the US. When you get a clock ticking centre-screen and the time "jumps" that is when the ad break should be (Sky finally seem to have grasped this), so in theory Sky are showing it the "proper" way, and the BBC were doing it wrong.

it should  also be noted that series two was subject to VERY heavy product placement by Lexus.  As a result, when the Beeb showed it, they had to cut many scenes to remove much of said Lexii (as AP tells us the plural is!!!).  That was partly why series 2 seemed a bit shorter per episode.

Agree with Mattk....soooo tired and formulaic now, especially their refusal to kill of the utterly pointless and annoying daughter Bauer. Yawn yawn yawn.  Here's a spoiler...Jack will win out in the end, despite being betrayed and let down by people he should be able to trust.

I can't believe how cynical so many of you are. I thought series 3 was ace, and series 4 is looking good so far, especially as Kim aint in it no more.

Series 3 wasn't shown on BBC because the BBC refused to match Sky's bid.
