I thought the effects were brilliant, a viewing experience no doubt, but I was dissapointed in the story. Could just as well have been Alan Ladd in "Shane", same old story done a 1000 times in every genre, ok good idea with the body shift device but even that is ripped off from stargate universe, then there's the loader rip off from Aliens, interconectivity? The matrix? and even "unobtanium" was from the appalling "The Core". Without the effects and action sequences, it's 5/10 max but I gave it 7 on IMDB in recognition of the viewing experience. Too long, story too familiar.

Well i managed to watch it without comparing it to half a dozen other films! Perhaps if you did that yourself you'd have liked it more ;-)
Fern Gully was much better IMO
I got bored, that may be just me and not a reflection of the film, it did not interest me enough

I did exactly that boo, I wasn't comparing it as I watched it, I was just recalling where I'd seen things before, especially the overall story.
I got bored to cazzz, it just seemed like a gloryfied cartoon to me, special effects good I know but that's what they do these days, again it's just me coz him in doors liked it, I'm more your blood and guts kinda girl I love gory horror the more blood the better. Watched 'My Bloody Valentine' last night, right up my street it was.
The story was like Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, which of course was not a story at all, but the film was excellent in 3D at the pictures, we have it on DVD and blue ray but I haven't watched it again since the pictures
pocahontas in space
and the special effects gave me a headache!
I watched about the first hour and was bored silly, perhaps its better in the cinema but I doubt it, cant see why it is so popular
What I loved was Joel Moore in Bones queuing up with lance after winning tickets for the avatar premiere, so funny,
Aactually he started queuing with hodges but he had to go back the the jeffersonian, him being the new king of the lab and all
I saw it (unfortunately) in IMAX(giant screen) 3D.
To me it was too long, boring and predictable.
Lord knows what all the fuss is about,it's just another overhyped movie.
It will be one of those movies that will do well on DVD and then be forgotten.

PS:~
A friend treated me to it.
I'm surprised Roger Dean hasn't sued...
It was crap....I can't believe I wasted 3 hours of my life. First time i'd been to the cinema for about 5 years and I decide to watch that bunch of broccoli....
We borrowed it off of a friend and I was bored within the first 5 mins, so much so I went off and did some housework. The kids and husband enjoyed it tho.

I think "crap" is a bit harsh ummmm!
-- answer removed --
It's not a great story (yep pocahontas in space indeed) but visually it is stunning and pushed the boundaries of what is possible in films and for that alone it should be applauded.
