Is there a contractual reason why the BBC never seems to repeat midweek Match Of The Day shows during the following day?

The Saturday night airing is always repeated on Sunday morning but the occasional Wednesday night broadcasts (such as tonight) just don't get rebroadcast. (I am aware that it will be on iPlayer)

Simple answer: "Yes".

The Saturday MOTD can only be shown on the day that the matches are played and up until 1030 on the following day. There's a big enough audience to justify such an arrangement for Sunday mornings but not on Thursday mornings.

But these midweek shows invariably occur during school holidays so that there would be plenty of kids (in addition to any adults not at work) who might want to watch it considering the late hour of the first airing.
