....not that I'm a snob (can't stand them either) - just have lots of respect for others.
Sue, I have lost track of the number of times I have been to a 'nice english civilised' wedding and the bride has had to have a hand to hold the dress up whilst she goes to the loo.

Its does not make these people bad
____
What The Funicular, that is not why the majority of posters think they are bad. Why on earth did you use that example?
There is a simple answer to the traveller problem. Their defenders could just invite them to come and live on their property. Or is it a case of "not in my back yard"?
There seems to have been a blurring of the lines over recent years.
When I was growing up, there used to be 'Gypsies' and then 'Diddicoys'.
The former were proud of their Romany heritage and scorned the 'Diddicoys' usually referring to them as 'Irish tinkers', and blaming them for the untrustworthy tag they themselves got saddled with, by association.
We still refer to them as 'tinkers'
well done housemouse I hate to see a thread so biased that it makes me ashamed to belong to the human race, I have known travellers & I can personally tell you that ok they are generally rough & their language leaves much to be desired & they leave a lot of rubbish about when they move on,but I admire their moral outlook on family traditions & if ever I needed help they were the folks who willingly aided. I would just like before closing to ask you people on here how many of you are sin or stain free???
Let him who hath not sinned cast the first stone.
Also red, if you were able to look back over threads on your 'favourite accent', mine has always been the Northern Irish one.

We've also been to Southern Ireland & had a ride on a jaunty cart, itchy horse blanket covering our knees too. 'Twas a brilliant hoilday, apart from the rain - so no hard feelings eh?!

I'm afraid 'some' of those words do apply in respect of my previous posts - sorry if it offends, but I wouldn't call the people who have done the things in mine & other's posts, very nice people - would you!
I think it's the fact that they are all being tarred with the same brush.
Can't speak for anyone else ummm, but I did say they're not all the same - just the ones I've encountered. Does leave a very nasty taste....!

Another little snippet:

I know you did...
That's true ummmm, they are. Like I say I know many, some I can sit round a table and have a drink with. Although I must admit that number is very small. If you have ever been to one of your cousins boxing matches, you will probably know how they behave. Intimidation is the order of the day.
Traveller:
Despite political correctness going to war with honesty and rational thinking, the general perception of travellers remains quite accurate. They are untrustworthy scum, who make life hell for genuinely hard working people who are unfortunate enough to have them envade their local green area. They have no respect for the environment and they dont pay taxes. They solve arguments with violence and marry within their families.....
That was from the link.
Yep...been to all his boxing matches. The last one ended up in a riot..!

I know a few.....some are nice...some not so. They are dangerous though...all of them...because even the nice ones have the back up of the not so nice ones.

There has only been 1 stand out gypsy fighter (professional boxing) in my era ummmm.
Henry Wharton from Crafts neck of the woods, but even he did not have what it takes to win the ultimate prize.
