Hi Smudge. What really niggles me is that if I decided to live like they do I would soon be taken to task by the law. They seem to be able to do what they like and the police pussy foot round them. If there is any real trouble from them they police send in what seems to be the entire Norfolk police force. Basically, I think the police are afraid of them.

Dead dogs in black bin liners disposed of in public car parks is not my idea of polite and respectful.

I live near Walsingham which as you may know has many religious pilgrimages to which the travellers congregate. The shopkeepers have to lock up their shops and bar up the windows because of the theft and peoples homes are a real target for theft.

I am not about to call them names because people on here will disapprove, but it is easy for people to criticise posts like this if they haven't seen what really goes on.

The young girls seem to be utterly focused on the wedding and all that it entails............isn't it a shame that in only a couple of years the gloss seems to have well and truly worn off and appears so obvious in the faces of the 'older' wives ?

I must admit I had a giggle when the bride was being helped into to seat at the reception. Legs flying all over the place. Those dresses are just so huge that the poor brides look ridiculous walking in them.

That poor little girl in the pink dress. I felt for her when the other kids laughed at her. But she did look extremely funny. I couldn't do that to a child.

No, of course 'not all of them' ummm - but the majority have no respect for anyone else but 'them & theirs' - which IMO, is just not on!

We live in a small town & every time there is a funeral (quite often), they park all their lorries, trucks, vans & cars all over the roads & pavements causing gridlock for the rest of us. The police do nothing, except help 'them' to get into the Church, then the cemetary to lay the 'hundreds' of mega expensive floral tributes!

If us locals tried doing the same, we'd be nicked 'pronto'.

It probably doesn't even dawn on them DEN. They have been brought up so narrowly that they just don't fit into the world outside their environment.

Crowd of the girls from the site in Morrisons the other week - all looking like those on TV last night (a bit like mini Cheryl Cole's actually). Very pretty girls though. However, they had no respect for anybody else in the shop and were rude and pushy. They had very little children with them - I presume they were younger brothers and sisters.

I used to live in Skegness, and one Christmas, perhaps 10 years ago, they took over the entire sea front car park. All the pubs had to close, because when they use the loo, they don't 'do' it down the toilet, they do it on the floor, and it wasn't fair to expect people to have to clean up after them. They linked into the electric power from a lamp post on the site, and when they left the whole area had to be pressure washed. 'It', and you can guess what 'it' is was done anywhere and everywhere. There was even a pair of jeans which someone had just stepped out of.
I agree with LoftyLottie that the police are scared of them, they let them come through lots of counties until they got to Lincolnshire - they could have been turned back at any step of the way. Skegness really closed down for about a week because no-one dare go out. My late husband was involved with some of the clearing up, it was awful. They threatened they would 'put the windows in' down the main shopping street if anyone was arrested.

There was approx 450 people at my Dads funeral....we're not travellers.

I am sure Smudge would recognise a travellers funeral RedHelen. The funeral vehicle, the parked assortment of vehicles or people attending and the attire of the mourners sorts of screams 'Travellers' at you. We have a lot of traveller funerals around here too.

Helly I live in North Norfolk about 30 miles from the Lincs border. So will have a great deal of them here.

I am told by Irish friends that they are actually hated by the majority of Irish people. Whether that is true or not I am not sure.

Unfortunately, people with Irish accents are often assumed to be travellers.

Hi Lottie - I think its quite sad that all these girls have to look forward to, from a young age is watching Disney films looking for a wedding theme and waiting for a lad to put his claim on them. It is compulsive viewing though {:o )

Yes redhelen, I would recognise & notice the difference between a 'normal' respectful funerla, to one that creates havoc around the town, ignoring all the 'no parking at any time' notices. Also chucking their crisp packets, fag butts & beer cans on the floor outside the Church. Say no more...

I wouldn't know about the snobby element RedHelen. We don't consider Walsingham a snobby place at all. It's just an ordinary village with a lot tourists. Friends I have in Walsingham are very ordinary people.
