Has anyone else noticed that the word "yes" Isn't used much anymore ?.
While I was listening to an interview on radio 4 recently I heard the
word "Absolutely " used fourteen times ( in a three minute interview )
when the word "Yes" would have done. What is wrong with these
people. I'm "Absolutely sick of them.

'Yes' sounds very abrupt.
'Absolutely' takes longer to say and gives the speaker more time to think (especially if they say it slowly, pause, and then repeat it); they think it makes them sound more authoritative; it gives the impression of being a complete answer (there is nothing else to be said); and it sounds polite ( it is saying 'yes I fully agree with you').
I have tried to say it though and I just don't feel comfortable with it.
