TV shows registering births

In Hollyoaks and Eastenders recently, 3 fathers have been to register the birth of babies. I was always of the thought that the mother had to be there too. Can you register a birth withouth the mother or indeed both parents present?

Before you say it, yes I know they are only programmes and it's all made up anyway, etc, etc.

Yes, one parent is quite enough.

if the parents are married either or both can attend, if the parents are not married, the mother can register but not add the father in his absence, both unmarrid parents can attend together, or the father can attend on his own

In most cases, the regustrar will have been infomed my the birth hospital that a baby has been born and will have details of the birth

A dead beat dad who impregnated someone then bogged off could register the birth of a child, and say call it Farquart without the mum knowing?

Quite why anyone would do that I've no idea, but you get the picture- i hope!

actually my info is more historical, they now have a statuary declaration form that either parent can fill in and ask the other to take along if only one parent can go, so no B00 that wouldn't work now as the mother would have had to send the form in with them,

he didn't as far as I know, he asked Jack what to do and Jack said he was the only Dad the child would have

I think there's a form confirming the birth given to the mother by the hospital and it's needed to register the birth.

yes he did register the baby with the fathers name, thats the bit i seen anyway, just how did he do that??

Alfie put Michael`s name on the birth certificate. That`s why Kat got so annoyed with him & moved in with Mo.
