I wonder how many others will read that report and discover that the Wherther's Original chap was Jack Wooley??

Radio is a funny medium, you have images of the characters and can be surprised by the reality.

That is sad news, may he rest in peace.

Oh I agree Eccles - but Jack and Peggy really did look like Jack and Peggy
Sad news indeed.

Just listened to the latest episode, and the scales have now fallen from Matts eyes at last ! God, I'm enjoying this storyline !
The Alzheimer's storyline was done incredibly well - and the knowledge that the actor actually had the illness that he was portraying in his character brought a real lump to the throat and tear to the eye when I listened to the final scenes he recorded in 2011.

Another part of the radio soundscape gone - The Archers is losing its 'signature' voices at a alarming rate and the Ashes just won't be the same without CMJ either.
Do you remember when Jack Wooley kept asking Peggy to marry him and she kept turning him down?
We were driving in London on the Sunday morning when she agreed...MrG was so pleased and excited he shouted Yahoooooo! And drove into the car in front of us... :-( x
I can remember nearly sticking my car in a ditch through laughing at the "Nigel gets into bed with Phil instead of Shula" episode.

I think I still have it on cassette somewhere - whether I have any means of playing the cassette is rather more doubtful ...
What a shame......yes, the characters are dropping fast....I don't like a lot of the stupid sensationalism in recent editions and have largely given up, really since Nigel Pargiter's 360 foot dive off the roof. AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh...thud.

As to the cricket, I bet Andrew Strauss has a job lined up with TMS - he may be quite good at it.
So sorry to hear this. I have listened to The Archers every Sunday for more years than I care to remember.
That's sad news. Peggy will be worth a few quid now though!
