Because the US do it, we slavishly do the same. It is the sale after Thanksgiving (which we don't celebrate). The equivalent of our Boxing Day or New Years day sales.
All an unfortunate consequence of Globalisation and the US owning many of our retailers.
Like 'Trick or Treat' it is probably here to stay now it has been established.

I'm always sceptical about these so called ' bargains' .
People seem to be fooled a lot of the times into thinking that something is a bargain , just because the price has been ' reduced ' .
In a lot of cases retailers increase the price of a product for a few days , then reduce it back down to the previous price ; then advertise it as a 'bargain ' .
In the end a bargain is only a bargain if you think it's a bargain

Are you sure you got a bargain Tora?
I ordered an electric toothbrush last night on Amazon (because I needed one), It said I would save £20, but I didn't take much notice as the same toothbrush was on sale at Boot's for only 80p more than I paid.
People buy stuff because IT SAYS 30, 40, 50% off but in reality you DON'T!
