I've started a new thread, hope that's ok.
Just wanted to shout at Ruth tonight, she really is getting so irritating. Does she expect them to discuss every detail of everything with her!

A soap??? How dare you call The Archers a SOAP!! It's an everyday story of countryfolk, with an input from DEFRA, or whoever they are, of helpful advice for the farmers, social-mountaineering advice from Linda and a moral story about avoiding dodgy men like RT, though Helen's not a listener.

Sian Philips was in the stage show of Calendar Girls. Supposed to be Jean Harvey.
mikey @08.46. The writing is so brilliant that I sincerely hope that a lot of people will feel the fear and understand a bit more about mental domestic abuse. :)
I agree jourdain2. There have often been very serious themes in Amridge over the years....I recall the racist attacks on Usher by Roy, and homeless issue for the Grundys, when they all had to move to that awful Council Estate, Meadow Rise. I also remember the issue of women priests, which brought out the bigotry in surprising places !

Good writing is always at the base of good drama.

Evil personified. He couldn't wait to get the knife in, could he. Someoneought to creep up on him on a dark night!
What a horrible, horrible man.
What will Helen say (or do) when she finds out what he's done? What a nasty spiteful excuse for a man he is. It was brilliant though wasn't it - I shouted out "you bar steward" at the radio.
I wanted Ian to rearrange his features and I'm not generally a violent person, bad referees excluded.
That's a really long lasting show. I remember my parents listening to it on the wireless back in the early '50s!
If memory serves me right, The Archers is the world's longest-running radio show of its type.

I just clicked on the link to the theme music...Wow, that brought back some memories!
Regarding the theme tune, "Barwick Green", I live about 4 miles from the Barwick that is alleged to be the place after which the tune is named. There is no large plaque in the village that commemorates this famous coincidence, but perhaps there ought to be.
