Shugar, I'll have to just listen to this, one of my favourites, on the radio and watch Tim and Prue on the canal with no sound on the TV, as well as keeping my eye on here. I'm such a busy lady;-)

I'm an amateur: know what I like, but no expert. Defer to Mikey who knows more than I. Not re three tenors hype: VE prefers Domingo to Pavarotti to Carreras. Wonder if Mikey agrees.
Bernstein was famously tetchy and difficult, especially with his own music. He was a bad person to get on the wrong side of, thats for sure. Poor Pepe !
I have childhood memories of Gigli being played on the gramophone v_e so thank you for that.
Love Domingo and saw him at Covent Garden in the mid 80s but when I listen now to Pavarotti, after years of trying to decide who is best, I have to choose Big Lucy.
Re the two maestri, anyone remember Pavarotti on BBC2's MasterClass? And Domingo being interviewed (don't know where) and telling the Aylesbury duck joke? (Both years ago now.)
Pavarotti was asked about his own favourite aria. Pavarotti (and lots of silk handkerchief) replied that, while his fans would always prefer Nessun Dorma, his personal favourite was Che Gelida Manina because Rodolfo was his first starring role.
