Our aerodrome defence is quite inspiring,

We feel as safe as houses when they're firing.
Our A.A. Bofors gunner is a man who never cowers,
Last Tuesday week he got the chance to demonstrate his powers,
He shot one Jerry aircraft down and eighty two of ours

forty years, tch, the 1970s have much to answer for. I know a couple of couples with 40ths coming up; I remember one of the weddings but not the other (having overdone the champagne on that occasion). I felt vaguely guilty about not having a proper wedding myself so we could return the hospitality - but their parents could afford it and ours couldn't.
We didn't have a 'proper' wedding jno. Monday morning at a registry office and a few drinks and nibbles afterwards. No photographer, no fancy cars, no nothing. It looks very much as if LL jnr and gf will go down the same route, which is great because I won't have to dress up and feel dreadful.
And yes, most of are old friends have approached or are approaching the 40 year mark, and thinking about it we all had 'improper' weddings. Bling and spending loads of money didn't feature much back in the 70's from what I remember.

I got married in the Registry Office and had my Reception at home done by my Mum and Me. We lived in quite a large house in those days so had a good buffet and a large garden for some photos.
I still go past that house and have a few thoughts go through my mind. One is of my Dad sitting in a chair which his pipe in his hand, in the front garden watching the Derby Carnival Procession going past to the park.
Off to the dentist soon. Have a good day all. See yer later 'gater(s)

Here's my Dad on the chair on Carnival Day. I still have that chair. It came from India with my Great Grandad and Grandma as he was in the Army for 23 years and served in India a very long time. I have all his Army records.

Reg office here (well In Sutton, South London) too. Sister did a buffet at in-laws house. F-i-law drove usin his Rover via the florist to collect my bouquet of anemones. All very understated. We had to travel on a ferry overnight to Barça, then a day's wait for the bus to Victoria via some french ferry, took ages and was very smelly, the bus not me (I used those paper throw away knickers)-. Same coming back except my older sister and another friend travelled with us on the bus and we all shared a cabin on the ferry back to Ibiza, so they came on our honeymoon I suppose. Great days and memories.
just realised my own seventh anniversary was yesterday, but I didn't even get a pork pie from the Ed.
We got married in the registry office too, but no reception afterwards, it was just immediate family and one or two friends, only about eight people including us.
Jude, I was wondering what was holding your dad up until I made out the back legs of that chair.
