i mean they bear little relation to real life, i suppose that's the point, so we don't feel so bad about ours, but come on. Whatserface in Corrie the new bar Manager, that's a load of rubbish anyway, don't know any pub that could afford a bar manager, and she wouldn't have name over the door, that belongs to the persons who owns the pub. What do you reckon on soaps, off the scale, or just plain bonkers.

Clangers galore in all of them , but we still watch lol
If my experience of living in the same road for 20+ years is anything to go by, the public would die of boredom! We had the law round a few times chasing car thieves who hadn't realised it was a cul de sac, and they also arrested a neighbour's son one night. That's it. In 20+ years. Make a half hour twice a week programme from that!
I didn't think you needed a name over the door now - just a license on diplay
I've never seen The Clangers in Coronation Street........do they work in the shelter along side Ken's grandson and the Soup Dragon ?
I just saw a bit of Eastenders tonight, I don't usually watch soaps at all, what is it all about it was all Bollywood, or boll*** something.

in emmerdale, like corrie, they have had murders, arson, rape, endless stupid cat fights, women i know wouldn't waste their expensive nail jobs on doing that, theft, and everything in between, all this in one village emmerdale, and one street in corrie, i know people watch, but could they have a happy storyline for once, before we all end up down pub.
I agree with em1o about having the name over the door of the bar manager and how the hell can the low customer trade in the Rovers pay the brewery lease, council tax, electric, gas and the wages of the staff?
Question Author
they can't, and having worked in pubs, i have never seen anyones name over the door, other than the person in charge, owner. I think sometimes the storylines go too far, some are handled quite well, but john stapes descent into kidnapper all the way to murderer and now on the run, is stetching it a bit too far. How did he fall from a 4 story building and live to tell the tale.
In answer to your question, don't know, never watch them, and when I've been channel hopping and happened on one, they're always shouting at one another.
Proud to say this has been a soap free environment since 2008

tommy good for you, i now find that the tv is off more than on, can relax and listen to some nice music instead,
If it was all true to life in all its detail, nobody would watch it.

live in the capital, its fireworks most nights, sometimes i wonder how we don't all kill one another, police sirens all day and night, noise, pollution, endless building, road works make you wonder what we are still doing here. Great place, but heavens anything for a bit of peace and quiet.

another thing has anybody in a soap brought assault charges for being punched /slapped / hair pulled etc ?? .becky wrecked the barlows with a sledgehammer last week, did they ask for and money for the damage / report her for criminal damage ??
Question Author
No, any normal, well ish, person would have been on to the plods, still its diverting enough, but sometimes i wish there was a bit of good news, someone laugh, smile, and not live their lives as though stuck in a time warp, no music, art, theatre, and only Ken has a modicum of intelligence, and that's not saying much, Eccles where has he gone, perhaps off to keep Blanche company.
The pub licensee and owner can be two different people. Steve couldn't be a licensee because of his criminal record, that is why his mother's name was over the door.
A pub has to have a licensee to be operational. The council gives the licence.
It is usual to have the name over the door where there is one licensee.
Off licenses often have the name over the door, too.

Next time you go past a local pub, look above the main entrance.
if soaps were really true to life, then who would really watch me sitting on the sofa in my y fronts eating crisps and topic bars ?

(well except mrs jennigs across the road)
What a lovely mental image you conjure up there ankou, lol.
