it has got almost warmish, I suspect the Jet Stream has moved up Norfolk way. Jude, that's good news, hope you're all reconfigured shortly.

Woofgang, what is the 192 you referred to on the census thread? Is it something non-genealogical people like me should be aware of?
In bedroom; in the cool and laptop still working OK, great!!
jno, I guess woofy means 192.com, which gives you a certain amount of info, some free some paid!
yes thats the thing. I don't really mind folk who research their family trees as a hobby, its just that more and more the information seems to be seen as an entitlement and not a privilege.
I am fairly sure that there are things in my husband's family that his grandmother didn't want known. My own father cut all ties with his 4 sisters after they put him in an orphanage aged 11 when his father died. I don't want their descendants finding me and it doesn't seem to me to be respectful to go around rummaging in out ancestors' dirty laundry without a by your leave. To me its kind of the same as museums and other institutions that keep human remains from other cultures after their descendants have asked for them back.

...just one of my little quirks.....like the chainsaw i keep by the bed.

is it a genealogy site, neti? How does it differ fromo ther ones?

I know what you mean, woofgang - I think I may have mentioned before but I was googling my surname one night and came across my father's name - he was in court for embezzlement when he was young. The judge decided to let him off lightly (and wisely so, as he became a model citizen after that), but he'd be horrified if he knew that the newspaper reports were now online for anyone to see. He died long ago, but he could be alive, 90 or so.

Personally I'm not at all bothered by his wicked past, but I'm very glad I've never done anything that got in the newspapers in any way. My descendants will know only what I tell them, and I will appear saintly to a fault.
Hi,

Have been out shopping preparing the weekend visitors and getting booze for Saturday nights shindig, and then we took Meggie swimming down the river and went for a walk.

Am hoping all went well for Jude.

Been a very warm day indeed and sunny too for the most part, but it's muggy heat and their are a lot of clouds about now.

Please, please do your stuff and make spells to ensure Saturday is not a rainy day!

Off to cook a chicken.
The Head of my father's family tree is Lord Lovatt, but obviously some generations ago. Lord Lovatt and Minnie Mott started all the begatting. There is a vast fortune that was passed down the family, but my greatgrandfather ran away to sea and was cut off from the family!! His brothers were Harley Street doctors. hmmmm. He did very well for himself and charted undiscovered trade winds in the China Sea, which my Mum managed to lose, but I have all his naval references. He was a Captain, but obviously not a rich one.
its just a finding people site, phone numbers the electoral roll, lists of directorships and so on.

Lol..my nephew did our family tree ..in fact he still wanders around graveyards looking for long lost Lings . Anyway it was on Genes Reunited and we got an email from a very pompous man ,complete with photo ,who was a Bacon. The Bacons are big round here apparently .It appears that one of us peasants married into his family years ago .He wanted to know the ins and outs of a ducks backside .I thought he was very rude and deleted him forthwith and my nephew took the tree down from the site .
He'd obviously filched our emails from the site .You don't what ulterior motives these people have do you .
Hasn't rained here yet .Ever so stuffy ...
It turned out ok here...still room for it to be a tad warmer but it's been dry, the strong breeze made it feel cool to me.
I've been chatting to the family in Oz, they're bemoaning their cold winter temperature ....22C! :)

I don't know whether I want to know about my ancestors or not...and just beore I go I think I'll remove all trace of me. :)
My family tree has many branches! I haven't done much begatting but am afraid that my mother begat a lot, thus making branches and not a solid tree :0( I'm not bothered but it worries some people.

It is so hot that Mr N now goes to bed and sleep early, so I have the BBC and ITV all to myself, deep joyload, unless it pixelates, then miseryload!
just back from a Do. Was having a chat to John Carter - that's of Wish You Were Here, not of Mars. He won a trip in a prize draw and I did not. Also, I tried guessing the number of furry animals in a glass jar but was one out, so did not win the iPad.

I also sat next to a woman who volunteered to be a driver at the Olympics two years ago. She was interviewed one year ago and recently offered a job as a parking attendant. She's been in a basement in Park Lane for a couple of days with some Poles who don't speak English, decided sod this and demanded to be moved or she'd quit. So now she's going to be doing something in an office at Canary Wharf instead.

She did volunteer for the Paralympics too but still hasn't heard, so she's told them to forget it, she's going on holiday.

It does all sound rather shambolic.
shambolic jno, you do surprise me (not)
Time for bed methinks
Will think of you tomorrow jude
oight oight

My computer is being very shambolic and has decided to go slow .
Next weeks Radio Times will cost two quid because they are are including a 75 page pull out about the Olympics .
I'm shambling off to bed
Oight Oight all
Hope you are Ok Jude .
I am going to do my best to totally ignore the Olympics. The whole thing is now getting to me because I fail to see that this country is achieving anything whatsoever by hosting the games and I honestly think it will make us even more out of pocket.

Mind you in this area there doesn't seem to be one iota of enthusiasm about it.
Oight, oight.
thank you for the 192 info.

I am going to go away for the first week of the Olympics and cruise the Danube. I'll be back for the second half.

Looks like the 40 hours of dry weather St Swithin brought has expired.
Morning all...well I think it's morning, it's dark, wet 'n windy.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the olympics. If you think it's a shambles now....

Forgot to say yesterday I'm glad you're still with us sweti.

drums fingers...nope, can't think of anything to say at the moment.
Going to town and t hen hairdresser. It's mizzling and chilly!!!
