If it is Birmingham Town Hall then one interesting fact is that its building was funded by Joseph Hansom (he of the Victorian "Hansom cab" fame).
But the costs overan and it caused Hansom to go bankrupt and led to his financial ruin.
I lay virtually unused for years (1980s and early 1990s) but in the mid 90s a multi million pound upgrade took place and inside it now looks fantastic.
Many famous concerts have been held there (conducted by Elgar, Mendelssohn etc).
Many pop bands have played there such as Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc.
Mary Whitehouse (TV clean up campaigner) also had her first large scale meeting there. Her organization was originally called "Clean Up National TV" before someone pointed out what the first letters stood for.
If you go there during the day there is a cafe there, and if no concerts are on you should be able to look round the building inside.
