Can Someone explain how they get to this answer?

add all the numbers:

SIXTY FILM STUDENTS WENT TO A VIEWING OF A FILM CALLED TWELVE MERMAIS. TEN LOVED IT, TWENTY TWO DIDN'T LIKE IT AND TWENTY EIGHT WERE UNSURE.

The answer is 12386 but can you explain how they get to that?

Sorry i cant help you, but i have posted a question on AB before about a previous competition they did. The answer did not make sense and they didnt even bother to explain why the answer was what it was!!

Very Annoying, they have nothing on the website.

Have you tried contacting them for an explaination?

I can't be arsed to do it - but is it the total of the Roman numerals in the question (X,L.D,M,I,V etc) ?

i can't be arsed either but i bet that's what it is. cue various questions such as is IX as in SIXTY 9 or 11 - what about ILM?
