I remember me and my sister watching Tootsie and Smudge when we were little vaguely. They used to make us laugh. Can't remember why!
Bootsie and Snudge!
As a child I loved Mr. Pastry! Can't bear the Clitheroe Kid repeats, but liked them at the time. All the others mentioned were an entertaining part of life. The Navy Lark, yes jackdaw - with the formidable Pomona
Thanks mikey. That just made me choke on my beer as I read it.
Bonar Law, and a criminal practice !!
It would have gone 'straight over my head' when I was 'young and innocent'
But now it's very funny and clever, suppose it only avoided being banned because so few people understood.
Bootsie and Snudge!

I think that they started off as two characters in the army game, but because they were so popular ( at the time ) they got their own spin off series.
Betty Marsden was the female stalwart of Round The Horne.

She played the role of Dame Celia Molestrangler. She also had a leading part in Cary On Camping, playing opposite Terry Scott.
Mr Pastry made me question if I had a sense of humour
Have since decided I have a deficient humour gene

Noooooo Daisy, that can't be true your a Villa fan ;-)
When we were chavvy omies and chavvy palones we would not have understood either.
I remember Round The Horne, and no-one understanding the Polari that J & S spoke, just loved the voices. I had no idea how really subversive they were for the time.

I also remember The Clitheroe Kid, and Tommy Handley, and Al Read on the radio.

I have vague memories of Mr Pastry, but I was too young to understand what he was doing and whether it was funny or not.
What about 'Whacko!' and poor, downtrodden Mr. Pettigrew? I remember a parody.. 'Sun on the Chisel shining' etc.. Jimmy Edwards - and his tuba!

You can still catch 'Julian and Sandy' on Radio 4 Extra.... and I do!
Tommy Handley (ITMA) died the day I was born,1949. You must be a good age now, then.
Tony, not my fault that I do not have Blue blood but Claret and Blue blood

Here is Mr Pastry dancing The Lancers.....It won't make everybody laugh I suppose, but it has me in stitches !

I loved him..remember the palladium when he did the decorating sketch walking up the ladders and paper !!
I don't remember mr pastry. I'm too young, I guess (sorry:/) he reminds me of a man they showed on QI a few years ago. He wore very long-toed shoes and bent over doing some weird things. Stephen Fry thought he was hilarious, but no one else did.
Ah, murraymints. I remember seeing that sketch. I think it must have been a reenactment of his work by a different comedian.
