I hope everybody enjoyed this years final !

I was personally disappointed that Wolfson College didn't win, and even more disappointed that Emmanuel College wasn't in the final, with its Captain, the wonderfully named Bobby Seagull !

What a continuing treat UC is....long may it continue !

Yes, that was certainly the case.

It seemed to me that Monkman was strangely off-form....not sure why though ?

Jim...from my experience of watching Monkman over the last few week, nerves and pressure is the last thing I would have thought of him !

The winning captain was brilliant.

He generally seemed unfazed before, to be sure -- lots of early interruptions here when he was clearly chasing the answer before he knew what the question was.

Just a bad day at the office, I'm sure, and doesn't detract from his great performances in earlier rounds.

He was too eager and interrupted after hearing only a couple of words of the question, twice, and lost 20?? points. Perhaps made himself nervous early on but then seemed to recover. Two excellent teams but as has been said the best team won on the night. Long may UC continue! And Jeremy with it!

Ladybirder...the program stands out from all the usual dross that TV produces these days. I can't think of any TV quiz show that comes anywhere near it, except perhaps Eggheads.

Whilst it's an entirely different format and requiring lateral thinking, I consider 'Only Connect' to be equally absorbing!

I didn't believe that Seagull was a real surname.However,I looked on the free BMD and there are any number of them!

Have you not heard of Jonathan Livingston Seagull? He's very famous.

I read in 'The Week' magazine that Bobby Seagull was the son of Indian immigrants and his father named him after Richard Bach's fabled bird. He was apparently raised on a council estate in east London and attended a local catholic school. In due course he applied to study A levels at Eton College after reading an advert in The Times and won a full scholarship.

Personally I find Only Connect irritating, both the contestants and, I have to say, Victoria Coren.
I watched Fifteen to One the other day for the first time since the days of William G Stewart, and was disappointed to see it had been spun out to a whole hour. Somehow, to me at least, it worked better when it was shorter and sharper, without the tedious banter.

That's one of the things I like about UC, they just get on with it, and fast.
