Ha! My mistake - it was not an episode of Vera - it was in fact an old episode of Trial and Retribution. Series 6, episode 11. With David Hayman as Mike Walker and Victoria Smurfitt as Roisin Connor. First broadcast on 6th October 2002. Here is the synopsis. "When a young mother of two, Diane Leach, is abducted from a local wood, the confession of a local sex...

No ellie. Definitely not.
The woman lived with her husband and a male teacher at the school they worked at. At the end it turns out that her husband and the teacher were an item. They tried to cover up their relationship.
The boy's father is also a brilliant musician and teaches his son over the phone from prison.
The woman who was abducted tried to get the boy away from the two brothers as it was a very disfunctional family.

I watch a lot of crime dramas on Britbox and the Drama channel. I watched the programme you describe quite recently, and I think it was an episode of "Vera" that I had recorded from the Drama channel.
I have been concentrating on remembering the actors, and can vividly remember the two actors who played the two brothers (one the father of the boy, the other the uncle) and also the actress who played the boy's mother. I can't yet visualise the detectives who questioned them - but I am almost certain it was Vera and her team.

"When a young mother of two, Diane Leach, is abducted from a local wood, the confession of a local sex offender (played by Ivan Kaye) complicates matters. The abducted woman is a music teacher, and the confessor is the father of one of her pupils, a young boy with a huge musical talent. The woman's body is found in a local sawmill, owned by the boy's uncle.
As Pat looks into the possibility that the father of the young boy may be responsible for the woman's death, Walker has worries of his own, as his ex-wife Lyn is dating an abusive, unstable man."
Thank goodness I got that sorted out - it was driving me mad, trying to remember.
