Anyone watch this new series with Adrian Dunbar last night? On my to watch list but being slated in some quarters today.

The "twist" seemed obvious too early, nice journey though - e.g. police not wanting their past errors to surface. Could have done without the jazz club.

the bloody jazz singing! The "twist" which was signaled with flashing lights about 20 minutes in!

Too predictable, even before the first hour was gone. I, too, could have done without the jazz. I will watch next week in the hope it improves.

I quite enjoyed it. I'd say the twist (or double twist as it turned out) was hinted at rather than 'flashed up' - we're all born with 20-20 hindsight:-/ And i'll bet none of you never gave it a moment's thought until nearer the end.
The jazz (which i also cannot stand) is to be a regular feature but thankfully isn't that prevalent throughout the two hours.

I like the actors and their acting. I like the setting and the mood. A good story line and a decent length of viewing to get into the plot. I do not like the unlikely scenario of a retired detective returning to 'consult' - it does not happen. Lewis failed with Hathaway and Ridley should have been on the cusp of retirement. Apart from this unrealistic element, the rest I enjoyed.

We both enjoyed it, apart from him singing.
It doesn’t have the wow unmissable factor but still worth a watch I feel.

Watched the first episode last night. Think there will be more about the jazz club to come. Is Ridley a part owner? Certainly has keys to the place. He's not meant to be a singer - he's an ex cop, but "clubby singers" come in all voices. The song he sung was one of my mum's favourites and brought a tear to my eye.

Bednobs, I am retired now and I know there are a few returning officers who make a difference by offering by their experience. However, they do not take such a prominent role in the 'lead' position as Ridley clearly did. It was as if the DI was a fresh DS and Ridley was still the king. The SIO is never a retired officer no matter how clever he or she was.
