Name the Series

A long time ago (over 20 years there was a TV series about an upper class family. The father was very strict and I think a Mill owner. He was also a magistrate who tried his own son for the crime of being a conscientious objector and refusing to fight in the Great War. His father gave him a prison sentence and the son was treated very badly in prison. I think he was then made to go to war as a stretcher bearer. He also had one or two sisters who I think became nurses. Please tell me the title if you can, it has been bugging our family for years. As you can guess it was not a comedy.
