Just watching corrie and craig has been told by eileen that he cant smoke in office, also steve in pub is talking about throwing away ashtrays.
This is the first time in 40 years that corrie has acknowledged the real world. I think this is government intervention at its worst

Maybe it's because it is a workplace for the actors too so they won't be able to smoke and they're explaining it so the viewers understand why people aren't smoking anymore in these places?

I can't believe all the fuss about this smoking ban, its on the TV all the time, its not actually an illegal thing and yet the smokers are being made to feel like outcasts, there are a lot of smokers in my local and it they go outside for a ciggy then I for one will go with them because they are a great bunch of people and far more fun than the non smokers who sit with a bottle of water or diet coke.

quite right puss, I have packed in but am going to buy some toffee fags to wind folk up in pubs.
Hi Doc,
clarabel 82 is spot on with her answer. It is a workplace and smoking is not permitted in any workplace. That also applies to TV studios, stages, theatres. Any workplace or public building, smoking is now totally banned.

It is not the remit of a soap to remind us of current legislation
Doc
I agree totally, so maybe they are doing this to remind the cast not to light up a cig while filming. lol
well at least i can enjoy my diet coke for many more years!
yeah we're all boring, those of us who dont want to stick a rolled up piece of paper, filled with crushed up leaves and poisons gallore, well boring. fancy us not wanting to set a good example to our kids, how boring that we want to live to a ripe old age, how boring we dont want to pollute everyone around us. thats me missboring and i am quite happy.
Thing is Doc, The no smoking ban is a huge issue. Easters and Emmerdale are covering it as well. ( I like my soaps)..lol.
I can't wait to start going out to pubs again. Passive smoking has made me ill for years. Looking 4ward to not stinking, not having sore throat and bad sinuses and a smokers cough the morning after. Bring it on!!! Welcome back social life!
I think that because the smoking ban is national legislation, all the soaps have to reflect this. Not to do so would make their sets appear like some kind of other eorld where people smoke in public buildings - it would look really odd.

I think it has nothing to do with enforcing legislation, and everything to do with a necessary sense of realism.
