just finished watching the newest dr who episode tonight.

if the doctor is regenerating and when the doctor regenerates, he becomes a new doctor, then who is the new doctor going to be if it is not david tennant any longer???

I think that with james nesbitt, as I really cannot stand his voice and accent, so IF those rumours are true, I will certainly not watch it.

Sorry mcraig, didn't mean to look like I was ignoring your question. My Dad's not too good tonight. Had to help him to bed. Unless Russell T Davies is lying, DT will still be Dr. Who for another year. I'd be amazed if he gave it up, cos when you see him in interviews, he's SUCH a Dr. Who fan. He was positively foaming at the mouth when he met Peter Davison.

David Tennant has already filmed Christmas specials. If he regenerates into a different actor, then comes back at Christmas as David Tennant again, it will look daft! I'm sure all will be explained in the next episode.

My guess is the current doctor will regenerate into David Morrissey (there's been much speculation about DM).

Part of the overflow regeration energy will hit the severed hand which will regenerate back into David Tennant.

After reading all the comments I feel reassured that David Tenant will not be leaving our screens. I really can't imagine anyone else playing Dr Who!!! Not sure who David Morrissey is so looked him up and he won't do at all for Dr Who - he is not in the least bit fanciable!!!!
No, we have to keep DT. As it is I don't know what to do without his cute face, fab hair and great accent, (english or scots I don't really mind) on Saturday nights.
We can lose Donna, she drives me mad!!!
