I bought a plant from Do it All some months ago without a care label (the plant was cheap) and do not know what on earth it is.
It seems to like bright rooms away from direct sunlight.
The stalks are a deep red/crimson colour and the leaves are shaped like a spear and are green on the top and deep red/crimson colour underneath. The whole plant is hairy and soft - it feels like velvet to touch.
The plant is at least a metre wide now and just as high! i noticed at the bottom of the plant there is a flower of sorts - its is yellow and shaped like a ball which seems to open up and then wilt every so many days.
Fom your description it could be "Rhoeo" commonly called the boat lily or moses in the cradle. They are best suited out of direct sunlight
and cannot tolerate dry air so stand it on a tray of moist pebbles. Hope this is your answer!!
