I do Mike 1111 - of course i was too young at the time to register just how seriusly camp Lenny was! Those huge eyelashes, the womanish vocal delivery, the sweeping hand gestures - he'd be a gay icon if he were around today!!!

I never picked up on the camp thing either. Like you, too young. Would be interesting to see a few old clips for reappraisal.
I had problems because of my maiden name and muffin the mule...same name as the puppeteer hence one of my nicknames was Muffin...
Must have been Mills, I presume.

Andy is waving goodbye, goodbye!
p.s.

Oh, flobadob!!
First name Annette so I had the full set....at least muffin the mule was just a puppet not a more exotic form of entertainment
Apparently it's legal now.

Annette Mills was not actually the pupeteer, as Muffin was a string puppet who danced along on the piano to her accompaniment. Must be a sign of age - can remember that but don't know if I've had my lunch yet.

Silly student joke, circa 1970.

Ben: Bill, Bill, Little Weed pregalob!
Bill: How come Little Weed pregalob?
Ben: Oooh, blobfelloff!

never run out into the road to buy an ice cream !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Annette Mills was John Mills' sister (the actor John Mills!)

I had a muffin the mule puppet made of tin! Wonder where it went.

I preferred the Woodentops to Andy Pandy (but the Flowerpot men were lovely)
Was it Bill or was it Ben
Which of those two flowerpot men....................
Came on AB now and then?
Was it Bill or was it Ben?

I can remember the tune as well. I am singing it
Lenny the Lion certainly was camp! Best not to think too deeply about children's programmes then. For example, why was Andy Pandy always dressed in his pyjamas, why was he very friendly with a bear and a girl (was it some menage a trois?) and why did they all get into the same basket, and pull down the lid, until the next programme?

And as for 'Uncle Mac' on the radio, talking to tiny children.......
And what exactly was Peter Brough teaching Archie in Educating Archie?
I was frightened of Archie Andrews, I don't like ventriloquists dummies!! creepy!!

Lenny the lion was different though, as was Orville. They were animals. But ventriloquists dummies that emulate people ............... shudder.
I had a Muffin the Mule, too, lottie..... long gone, I suspect!

I liked Emu
LoftyLottie - don't ever watch 'Dead Of Night' - you won't sleep for a month!
