Hillman Imp

Hi there, does anybody know what year the Mk2 Hillman imp was introduced, as mine is 1966 and some say that it is Mk1 and some say that it is Mk2.

The back window could be opened, very handy for errrrrrm courting purposes.

Were the windows steamed up, dot ?.

Mk 1 had an instrument binnacle with spindly levers for indicators. Mk 2 had a more conventional dash.

Watch out for engine damage, the Imp was notorious for having an Aluminium engine block that was prone to warp if it overheated. That is the main reason why there are so few of them left.Plus they could never match the 'Mini' for performance and road holding.

I say TOSH! to EDDIE51. The Imp was a fine handling car.
It was not prone to overheating as such. The water pump was the only dodgy bit as it was out on a branch and people used to overtighten the belt and shag the bearings. THEN it might overheat if the water pump leaked.
Should be no problem these days.
