Hi Everyone,
My wife has a laptop that she has run on mains power for a couple of years with the battery disconnected. Today we put the battery in and although the computer recognised the battery it said "Not charging" I've tried several things to resolve this problem, most of them from Youtube but to no avail. I've uninstalled the drivers in the device manager turned all the power off removed then reinstalled the battery. (which automatically re installs the drivers) For the record the battery is as good as brand new, as it's not been used. Over to you good people.

I'm not sure but just because a battery has not been used does not mean it's good as new. If it's been lying around unused for 2 years it may have died permanently.
It may have died but it is possible that of you leave in the laptop it may slowly absorb charge

It's not good to leave rechargeable batteries inactive for a long time best to charge them once a month or so
You need to keep the battery charged but it's a good idea to let it drain completely from time to time, then re-charge it - but asap, so yours may have died. I had a Packard-Bell notebook PC once that never showed a battery charge of more than 8% but still worked happily on the mains. It was fine for using in the house.
