In the last week it has been very warm here, and consequently I have been using the AC more than normal. But why is the AC continuing to run when I reached my destination and turned the engine off ?

mikey, is it actually the air con or is it the engine cooling fan that is running after you turn off the ignition ?.
It knows you're still hot stuff ?
Googling suggests that it's "afterblow", used to reduce microbial growth (and the nasty smells that can be associated with such growths) by drying the AC evaporator canister.
It will definitely just be the fan cooling the engine, mine does it too.

Buenchico....sounds like common sense...thanks !
Gee Buenchico, you got that from Google can you translate that,I thought the same as tonyav and the engine fan would still run.Try running the engine with the a/c off and see if it still does it

When this happens again, I will check whether its engine fan and/or the AC.

But, from memory, it only seems to happen when I have had the AC on.
It's a good idea to switch the aircon off a couple of miles before reaching home to dry it out.
