I have a BMW 2006 year (series 6) and after a while driving I can smell fumes inside, giving me a headache. Reluctant to drive too far now due to this. Any ideas why?
I know I asked if you could smell petrol, but as prudie says it could be an exhaust leak and the fumes are getting sucked into the car via air vents.
As an experiment you could set the air con to recirculate and see if the fumes stop then.
'Bad eggs' means that the catalytic converter has had it.[Mega-expensive, especially on a BMW!]
A hot, dry, burning smell (like the smell from an overheated electrical connection) means that there's a clutch problem. [Expensive, especially on a BMW!]
A smokey smell usually means that there's a brake binding. [Normally fairly cheap to fix]
