vw polo service reminder

how can i reset the service reminder on a 98 vw polo. i know you have to do somthing with the trip counter button. anyone got an idea of what?

I would have thought it would have to be done with an engine service logistics machine. Not by the trip button. There are different plugs over the engine for this machine to plug into, which VW use to reset the dashboard lights...

This is what you do :
With the ignition off, press and hold the trip meter reset button at the base of the speedometer. Keeping the button pressed, switch on the ignition. Hold the button pressed for about ten seconds after switching on the ignition, and the service dis[play will change to a row of dashes, indicating that the service display has successfully been
set.
Release the trip reset button, then switch the ignition off, and on again, to confirm the resetting. Switch off the ingnition to complete.

As quoted from the Haynes manual. Sounds complicated, but it's quite simple. Good luck.
thank you Gary, thats what i was told also until i was corrected on a similar post here on a corsa. i tried derekpara's solution as someone else posted that solution in the corsa post........it worked !!
