Does anyone know of a method to prevent my wife (bless) putting unleased fuel into my diesel engine?

Tell her never to refuel it?

Perhaps that is what she wants!
glasses?
stick a label on the inside of the fuel cap.... when she opens it... it will be staring her in the face
Don't let her drive it.
Buy a diesel Range Rover. Let's hope other manufacturers adopt this technology! http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/10/range-rover -tdv8-features-idiot-resistant-fuel-filler/
Cut her credit card in half. :-)

Thanks to laloopi for the only useful answer! I have since discovered that UK consumers spend 800 million each year (yes you read that correctly) on fixing diesel engines that have some unleaded put in them. It's way, way too easy - think of when you hire a car that is diesel but you've used unleaded cars for 30 years - at the first fill up your auto pilot is competely in charge. This happens 400 times a DAY in the UK alone. So the next question is - if it is so simple a problem to fix, why hasn't it been solved. Here's a clue - think about economics and true incentives.......
I understand that you can obtain a small device with a voice chip that says "Diesel only" when you open the fuel cap.
On TV once an inventor showed his device with some sort of magnet built into the fuel cap which had to be held against the pump to activate it. Obviously different fuel caps for different fuels. Trouble is there is no financial incentive for any manufacturer to bring in the system.
you can buy a device which goes on the inside of your filler flap and when opened and hit by light a voice says DIESEL ONLY.. Either that or trade your wife in for a new model

Thanks panicbutton, you r right there is no incentive for the industry to sort it - I reckon it's worth something like 20 million (yes!) a year in revenue (fixing, replacing fuel etc).

And thanks walter2004 - I found the device you mention. Problem is the one I bought doesn't work (not sure why, trying to get a replacement or refund). And apparently there are limited supplies (perhaps not being made anymore?)Dunno. And anyway I don't think it will fit inside my fuel cap cavity. Seems a bit extreme to have to sell the car for one with a bigger fuel cap area. That would be an interesting discussion with the dealership salespeople!!

And yes, I'd love to trade my wife in for a new model......perhaps a 21 year old nymphomaniac blonde with no driving license!!!
