Could anyone offer any advice! A friend of mine has a car registered in her name - she gave the car to her mother but kept the car in her name - Her mother insured the car and has done for seven years, Christmas eve, last year, it was stolen and set alight. A claim was made but now the insurers have cancelled the policy and are not refusing to pay out.
on what grounds are they refusing to pay out? whether the car is registered to her or not, she is insured on the vehicle unless she has falsely or accidentally advised them at the begginning that she was the registered keeper. other than that I cant see why an insurers would refuse. Wouldnt surprise me if it were direct line. they suck!
If the car was registered in your friends name the policy should have been taken out by her with her mother as a named driver. I dont think you can insure a car unless you are the registered keeper
I've had a similar thing happen, the car was in my name but my mum took out the policy! Now know that you have to own the car to be able to take out the policy. Our policy has now been made void. They should refund all premiums back to the very first date you took out the insurance. As they are saying they never covered the car then you are leagally entitled to have all the money back
