i have bought a car which I found out afterwards was a cat C. I wasnt told by the garage I bought it off, is this legal? also, they didnt give me a log book. This is the first car I have ever bought so didnt really know much about it, and assumed they would tell me any info i needed to know. Since buying the car, ive found out i have two slightly buckled back wheels and so really shoudl by new wheels. the garage i bought the car off said they didnt knoqw it was a cat C, but ive had a letter saying i need to get some VOSA thing sorted because of a problem with the documentation. Should i be worried about the roadworthiness of this car? more importantly, did the garage do wrong in seeling it to me without telling me and with no log book? help! i am really clueless!

yes it seems you have been conned by the garage, what sort of garage was it,a bigish one or back alley one.go back to the garage and demand your money back or you will contact your local trading standards office and report the garage, also that you will contact the police and local paper,if they dont give you your money back.if you keep the car,you must get it VIC tested at a VOSA centre to confirm the car in question is the right car and any repairs that were made, were carried out to road standards, once the car has passed the VIC test, you can then apply to the DVLA for a V5 log book.its quite a easy procedure.

Thanks, that helps me a lot! the garage was a large(ish)one that has been around for years, so I thought i would be ok, oh well, at least i have a plan of action now!
take the car back and INSIST you get your money back !!!
no iff`s no but`s... you have been conned !

dont argue with them, just insist they take it back and make sure you dont loose a penny on the deal....

i think Norms advice is as good as you will get.

I hope you got your car for a good price, because as it is a cat c you should have got it for a cheaper price as opposed to buying exactly the same car that is not a cat c. All you need to do to get your car legally on the road is get a 'vehicle identity check test' booked for your car with VOSA which costs 38. When your car has been tested and everything is sorted, you will be able to tax your car and send of for the log book.
