Sounds like a slipping clutch.

basically all clutches wear out in the end (anything from 50-120K miles depending on the car and how it's been used)

If it is that, it needs a new clutch soon, if you avoid the main dealers it should cost between 2 and 3 hundred pounds to have the job done.
hi i agree with the above post im afraid. my car has been doing the same thing and i took it into a garage the other day and got it confirmed that it was a slipping clutch and that it would cost a couple of hundred quid they said.,
Yup - slipping clutch - will get worse and willl start to slip when going up hills - then you're stuck.
Get it fixed.

yup, it was my clutch, it went on my way to work before i cud get to the garage. iv only had the car two mths and i have a 3 mth warrernty the garage said i wudnt have to pay cus it was covered under the warrenty so i took it to the garage for this reason only, they are rubbish!!! and they are now trying to get me to pay 370!!! they eventually knocked it down to 250 but i am very unimpressed! is this right??
Unfortunately you may find it is not covered as people tend to class it as a consumeable item (ie something not intended to last the life of the car like tyres, brakes, bulbs etc).
