does a clutch that is slipping need replacing or can this be repaired

clutches cannot be repaired,they have to be replaced.
clutches are 'friction' parts, like brakes and hence wear out, thus needing replacement.

Depends on the operating system. If its hydrualic - normally replacement only but if its cable opertated there may be an chance to adjust it.
if the clutch is slipping no adjustment of the cable will make a difference. you can buy reconditioned clutches for some cars but i think they are s h i t e. for all the hassle of pulling the gearbox out you are as well spending the extra on a half decent clutch kit.
