Why don't they put cameras above the speed limit signs?

It is only the repeater signs (which are not required by law but are only provided for your convenience) that are smaller. The official speed limit signs are of a standard size and height above the ground, and must be place on both sides of the road where the speed limit changes.
The whole issue of speed cameras is very contentious and not one I want to become involved in. However, you should remember that it is the drivers responsibility to remember what the prevailing speed limit is and to drive within that limit. After all, town centre CCTV cameras do not have a notice attached to them saying No Fighting or No Mugging do they?

If someone was driving along a dual carriageway in a new area to him, he would assume it would be a 70mph speed limit, but in some places it may only be 50mph.
If there were no speed limit signs, then he would not know this. I think that there should be more speed limit signs along the road even if it isnt a legal requirement (for the smaller sized one). I think that is agreeing with you Cockney_si.

lol panic, where I live almost all the camera's are placed conveniently behind tree's, road signs and bus stops, most of the time you dont see them untill you are almost driving through them...
if it was an execise in safety they would clearly mark the speed on the back of the camera and all camera's would be in plain view and not hidden, also they would put camera's where it is suitable such as outside old peoples homes , schools and hospitals instead of on the m45 where there are no records of people being run over

Sorry to come back to this but I've been without the internet for a few days.
Cameras might well be a way of raising money but so is the council tax. I don't expect to get away with paying less council tax so why should I get away with speeding. I'm not saying I never break the limit but if I get caught I have only myself to blame - the camera didn't make me go faster.
Also, it is up to me to know what the speed limit is on any stretch of road. If I am distracted, and don't see the signs, then that it my fault.
Why can't people just accept that there are speed limits and stick to them?
