Sounds like you may have a problem with the cabling between the body of the car and the hatchback door.

Obvious place to look is for any break/fraying where the cabling leaves the car body and enters the hatchback door.

Or it may be a vehicle which has a set of contacts which 'make' when the hatchback is closed - these may have become dirty.
Has the wiper motor not Jammed? Thus causing the fuses to blow?
Could be a poor electrical connection, as previously suggested, particularly a poor earth. I don't know Micra's well enough to say there are known fault areas but many vehicles have them.
To test for this you could lift the wiper blade off the screen and then switch it on: this reduces the drag that the motor has to overcome, thus reducing the current drawn and therefore any voltage dropped across bad connections. If it works now then it does point to a poor connection somewhere. This will of course not fix the problem but help as a part of a diagnosis.
there is one common elecrical problem with micras in thatthe small fuse box under the bonnet on the n/s tends to burn out and melt. worth a look
