I've put 0.5litre petrol in my Mazda6 diesel car.I soon realised the mistake and just filled up the tank to full with diesel. I'm just wondering whether anything would have happened to the engine or fuel pump.

I'm guessing you've got about a 50 litre tank, so I wouldn't worry about puting 0.5 litre of petrol in. No doubt someone will say it could cause all sorts of problems, but in my experience this small amount will have no effect. Now if it had been half a tank of petrol.....
nothing to worry about, filling up your tank with diesel straight away would have diluted the petrol down to a level of near enough nothing.
