starting problem on a 1993 Rav4 import

when trying to start from cold I appear to be getting a "rattling" sound from the engine and nothing is happening

Hi, have I read this right? are you saying a Quiet sound (quot) to start the rattle could be many things like the Exhaust banging against the body below the car, you say nothing is happening, do you mean the car does not turn over? this could be a Flat Battery, have you tried to see if your light come on when trying to start? If not try it, also the horn does it sound they way it should, Is the battery in good order? has the car been used on short journeys with the heater, radio, demister, lights on? this inturn will flatten your battery if the car does not get a good run to put back into the battery what the electrics have taken out on the start up.
