my car is using far to much petrol, it is a 1.0litre. any ideas

PLugs, Air filter, fuel filter, Un-serviced, Tyres under pressure, When was it last serviced?

just done a service myself, only thing left to do is fuel and oil filter. the car only does about 300 miles on a full tank of fuel, do you know if this is bad?

How many miles to the gallon does it do?

The car depending how hard your right foot is pressed should do approx 40+ to a gallon.

it is doing about 40mpg but starting smokes a lot and smells as if its running to rich. also seems to bog out a little when there is more than 1 person in the car. is there any way to adjust the mixture to suit?

Put a tin of Red X in your tank, And take the car for a good run, was the plugs sooty when you replaced them? if not, do not tamper with the mixture, Fuel filters does the job of intention but not to the point of concern unless you use cheap crap fuel.
