If you've been in an accident and they've classed your car as a cat d - it's a write off category.

They pay you and the car belongs to them - they may let you buy it back from them if you want to keep it and repair it privately.

Cat d cars are not insured by all insurers they may decline to cover you on it

Hey thanks Jake the peg BUT it was the insurance company i have the issue with, they didn't notify me of the cat D they put on my car which i find really bizarre???!!! my question is should they not have informed me and then should my insurance policy not reflect that. ??????
How bizarre - get on to them straightaway and find out just what is going on. It may not be your fault but if your vehicle is a cat d write off and you are still driving it you may not be insured.
