Replacement motorcycle keys

My mate (definately not me!!) decided to run his lawn mower over his ignition key leaving him with the fob and no sign of the other end. Unfortunately he has no spare and no record of the key number.

So far we've been told the key number may be stamped on the ignition key barrel (Cheap option), a key could be made using the barrel as a mold (affordable) or a total replacement lock system (Extortionate!)

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Not a bad idea Toureman, I'll look into that and let you know how we get on.

Toureman,

FYI my mate took off the top yoke (including key barrel) from his bike, took it to a local garage who sent it off to some company. They managed to make a new key using the lock as a 'mold' and got it back complete with spare key within 2 weeks. Whole job cost 70.00.
